It seems that whenever ABC are invited to a Guiding event the sun is blisteringly hot adding to the already superb Rockin' Rio event! For the second time this year the troups from round the glasgow area, this time the Girl Guides, gathered together at their Gartochran Campsite for a Rio inspired weekend of adventure, challenges and fun. This time to raise air miles for a trip to the Rio Olympics - the target of 6000 points was achievable through Treasure Hunts, Survival Skills, Adventures, Athletics and Sports.
Split into 10 teams of mixed troups, to encourage collaboration and socialisation, they could earn points by successfully completing the challenges within several Rio themed areas. As part of the Adventure Zone, the girls were encouraged to race against each other through our large Inflatable Assault Course, going through 3 times each would earn them 50 points, which could be doubled if they had the stamina to add on another bout of 3!! And the heat didn't help matters.
Meanwhile at the top of the highest hill on the campsite, the Airborne Adventure - our stunning rocket shaped parachute simulator, afforded the girls a view of the entire area from 20 feet up. By far one of the busiest attractions of the day as each team sought to be first!
Other highlights of the weekend had to be the Bubble Football, Archery, Crazy Golf and even a Silent Disco. Hearing almost 200 guides singing "Let It Go" at the top of their voices, (I think they forgot that you could hear them as they had the headphones on loud), certainly cheered up the guide helpers.
First to reach the 6000 point target was the YELLOW team on Sunday morning - well done!!!
All in, another fantastic day with the troups and the Army. Special thanks to Jade, Alison and Michelle for their hospitality and for helping with the teams, everything went smoothly and I'm sure the guides who attended will treasure this weekend for a long time.
And one last mention to The Sun for making it a great weekend and helping with my tan.
